mental focus is one of those things

there's a million ways to work on it

in literally everything we do in life

think that they work on mental focus

what they don't realize is that actually

their attention is constantly shifting

around from one thing to another and

it's doing this according to

all of their fears and desires in the

moment

when you truly practice mental focus

mental focus becomes about sustained

choice your ability to make a choice

that's where all your power is but most

people

don't ever sustain any one choice for a

period of time

and the reason you don't is because

whenever you sustain a choice

for a period of time

you bump up against the walls of your

personality's limitations

the personality doesn't like this so it

usually makes you pretty uncomfortable

but the real practice of meditation

is sustained choice we either

choose to focus on our breath and when

our mind comes in to take us away we

return to it

in this case we're going to choose to

focus on a specific

word but it really doesn't matter what

you focus on

whenever you pick one thing and you

sustain that choice

you create a split between the part of

you that can choose

and the part of you that's trying to

take you away from that choice

the part of you trying to take you away

from that choice is your personality

this is huge it's game changing

but very few people will ever

spiritual principle from your path

just pick some quality of humanity that

maybe it's unselfish love or

and you're not going to change it midway
